Let’s Make Our Cities Greener.. !!

At the UNFCC meeting in Paris 180 Countries including Sri Lanka agreed to maintain the global warmth level at least at 1.5 0C   and to prevent it increasing beyond 2 0C   by the year 2100

And also sustainable development Goal No. 3, 11, 13 & 15 also indicates the importance of Greening under following themes,

Good Health & Well Being                                       (3)

Sustainable cities & Communities                          (11)

Climate Action                                                           (13)

Life On land                                                                (15)

Trees also build soil and help soak up storm water before it can create a flood, and they offer energy-saving shade that reduces global warming and creates habitat for thousands of different species. Trees also help to reduce ozone levels in urban areas.

Most importantly, trees sequester carbon, helping to remove carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases from the air, which cools the earth.

Despite their importance to life as we know it, humans have cut down half of all the trees on the planet so far. Between 1990 and 2000, Sri Lanka lost an average 26,800 hectares of forest per year. The amount to an average annual deforestation rate of 1.14%
